Rare Dam Collapse in Winter, Thousands Missing in a Day

On February 18th, many Qinghai Province residents died or disappeared in a devastating flood. The homes of herders were swept away by the floodwaters, and herds of sheep perished. However, this tragic event remained unknown to the outside world for twelve days. Subsequently, Chinese state media reported that the flood was caused by rising lake levels, which led to the destruction of a dam. However, they dismissed the heavy casualties as rumors.
