Chinese Youth in Tears, Must Work 60 Years for Pension Eligibility, Pension System Goes Bankrupt

James Liang, a demographer, in an interview with China Times, highlighted the unsustainable nature of the current retirement system. He pointed out that individuals in their fifties and sixties are retiring with decent pensions, a system that cannot persist due to the diminishing younger population. The future, he suggests, may involve either a reduction in pension amounts or an increase in the retirement age to between 70 and 80 to address this imbalance.
