The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to halt U.S. military action in Iran amid renewed hostilities following the collapse of the ceasefire.
The vote, held on July 23, was 214–208, with all Democrats being joined by four Republicans: Reps. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.).
Reps. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) and Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) forced a vote on the war powers resolution.
The Senate is expected to vote on a similar Iran war powers resolution later on Thursday.
The vote is largely symbolic as, even if a similar resolution were to pass the simple-majority requirement in the Senate, it would not go to President Donald Trump’s desk. The War Powers Resolution of 1973, also known as the War Powers Act, doesn’t require a president to sign these resolutions….
