President Donald Trump addressed a new report that Iran is expected to obtain up to 400 Chinese-made rocket launchers, saying on July 29 that it “would be surprising.”
Reuters reported on Tuesday that Iran was purchasing between 300 and 400 man-portable air defense systems from China. The alleged purchase of the rocket launchers, which could include Chinese-made FN-16 and QW-12 missiles, would be valued at $60–70 million.
The report came after Trump said on July 24 that both Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed not to give or sell weapons to Iran.
During a press conference in the Oval Office on July 29, Trump was asked for his response to the report, which says that China could provide 400 rocket launchers to Iran after passing them through Pakistan….
