On March 21, 2022, China Eastern Airlines Flight MU5735 crashed in a valley in Teng County, Wuzhou, Guangxi, while en route from Kunming to Guangzhou. The plane quickly descended from its cruising altitude of 8,900 meters, almost vertically, and crashed, killing all 123 passengers and 9 crew members aboard. This became China’s deadliest air disaster in nearly 30 years. Four years later, the Chinese government has refused to release information on the cause of the crash, citing “state secrets.” The cause of the accident remains unknown to the outside world.
