Heavy rainfall has pummelled the southern region of China, especially in Guangdong Province, leading to severe flooding. On May 4th, Guangdong issued 139 consecutive alerts for heavy rain, along with 24 warnings for thunderstorms and strong winds. Cities like Zhongshan and Zhuhai have been particularly affected, with local rainfall reaching levels of torrential rain. Some local internet users have said it was “as if the sky had opened a faucet.”
