Hong Kong’s flagship technology hub at the border received a better-than-expected six bids from conglomerates and hi-tech firms for its inaugural land tender by the deadline on Monday, with industry leaders describing the project as a springboard for mainland Chinese firms going global.
The Loop Hong Kong Park Company, which operates the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP), said it received strong interest in four land parcels with a combined gross floor area exceeding 76,000 square metres. The sites are earmarked for innovation and technology (I&T), and talent accommodation.
The tender followed closely after a land sale for a Northern Metropolis pilot project at Hung Shui Kiu, which drew only two bidders in July. The Hung Shui Kiu site is the first large-scale land sale to combine property development with the creation of an I&T hub.
The bidders for the tender, which opened in June, included high-end innovation and technology industries and large conglomerates, the operator said.
“The enthusiastic response to this inaugural tender shows the industry’s full recognition of Hong Kong’s strengths in innovation and technology, as well as its confidence and high expectations for the park’s development,” it said.
It added that the site sale used a weighted “two-envelope” scoring system, allocating 70 per cent to technical proposals and 30 per cent to financial offers.
