Hong Kong Is Dead: Numerous Shops Close,Prices Skyrocket,2M Residents Flock to Shenzhen for Shopping

According to data from the Hong Kong Immigration Department, during the Easter holiday period from March 29th to 9 PM on April 1st, the number of times Hong Kong residents exited the city reached over 2.27 million, while only 498,000 inbound trips were recorded. Of these, over 1.9 million Hong Kongers ventured into the mainland, representing over 83% of outbound travelers. Roughly a quarter of Hong Kong’s population, based on a 2023 estimation of 7.5 million residents, visited the mainland during this period.
