Exploding Tanks, Leaking Warships, Fragile Jets—China’s Arms Quality Angers Bangladesh Military

In recent years, China has been exporting weapons to developing countries under the “Belt and Road” initiative. However, it wasn’t long before reports of accidents started coming in from countries like Bangladesh, leading to criticism that the products were substandard.
Over the years, the Bangladeshi military has bought a lot of equipment from China: army cannons, air force fighter jets, and navy ships. They thought they were getting a good deal, but soon enough, problems started to arise. The most notable incident was in 2013, when Bangladesh bought the “ultimate version” of the Chinese J-7 fighter jet. Within just five years, two of these jets had crashed. Bangladesh questioned the quality of the Chinese products, but China refused to take responsibility.
