On July 7, an online video showed a section of China’s so-called “century project,” the Pinglu Canal, experiencing a riverbank collapse along the route from Hengzhou City to Qinzhou Port in Guangxi. The footage showed a gap several meters long in the canal’s flood-control embankment and high slope, with water rushing through.
