Beijing’s New Homes ‘Buy One, Get One Free’, Still Hard to Sell; China’s Real Estate Crisis Deepens

Recently, a travel blogger’s visit to Yantai City in Shandong Province in China, revealed that some of Yantai’s seaside properties have turned into “ghost towns”. Drone footage showed many houses were enveloped in thick fog, with the surroundings desolate and uninhabited. According to the blogger, the houses appeared “mysterious and terrifying, feeling eerie even in broad daylight”.
During the Qingming Festival holiday, spanning from April 4th to 6th, the China Merchants Bright A.D. project in Tongzhou, Beijing, introduced a special promotion: “Buy one, get one free”. This offer was available to customers who, within the holiday period, committed to buying a two-bedroom apartment measuring 77 square meters (about 829 square feet) in Tongzhou and finalized their contract by April 30th. In return, they were granted a complimentary seaside property in Yantai, which is 108 square meters (roughly 1162.5 square feet), along with an 8-day, 7-night cruise. Additionally, they were entered into a draw for a chance to win a “3-day, 2-night trip to Yantai”.
