As the World’s Second-Largest Economy, Why Is Chinese Still So Poor? 3 Workers Support 1 Official

Recently, there has been a phenomenon of beggars lining the streets in various parts of China, as seen in viral videos. Beggars, either standing or kneeling, crowd entire streets, creating a scene that is quite shocking. This is despite China being touted as the world’s second-largest economy and claiming that in 2023 the per capita disposable income of residents reached over 39,000 yuan, equivalent to almost 5,400 US dollars.
Questions arise as to why scenes of destitution like these are prevalent in what is supposed to be a prosperous era.
