At least 13 people are dead after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu on July 28, causing the collapse of part of a shopping center. Search teams have extracted eight individuals from the wreckage of the damaged Aeon Mall in Kashima, including two women in their 20s who did not survive.
Roughly 20 to 30 mall employees are still missing, authorities said. At a nearby paper plant, seven workers remain unaccounted for after a chimney fell, and four others suffered serious injuries there.
