A 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu on July 28, causing the collapse of part of a shopping center.
Multiple people were trapped inside the building, and around 20 to 30 workers at the shopping mall were unaccounted for after an explosion sounded in the aftermath of the quake, according to initial reports.
Dozens of people are missing or injured in the southern Kumamoto Prefecture, and a tsunami advisory was issued but lifted shortly after.
Local news outlets reported that at least 40 people were injured, and about 50 more were taken to a hospital nearby. Their conditions are unknown.
