WASHINGTON—The fear was in the air as the woman stood in front of a Falun Gong booth in Chinatown in the New York City borough of Manhattan, handing out flyers to raise awareness about the ongoing persecution in China against her faith.
“Be careful,” a Chinese man passing by said. Someone may come and smash things up, he told her.
The person seemed well-intentioned, but the warning was another reminder of the constant China-linked harassment and intimidation that Falun Gong practitioners face.
“When I first came to America, I thought I was safe, but after all these years, I know now I’m not absolutely safe,” the woman told The Epoch Times. She asked to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisal against her family in China….
