On June 26, an incident occurred in Beijing involving a small aircraft striking the China Zun building (also known as the CITIC Tower), with debris reportedly falling into the Central Business District area of the city.
The CITIC Tower is a 108-story skyscraper located in eastern Beijing. It is currently the tallest building in the city and serves as the headquarters of the state-owned CITIC Group.
According to widely circulated videos online, a small aircraft appeared to collide with the upper floors on the eastern side of the tower and disintegrated mid-air, with wreckage scattering to the ground below. Eyewitnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing flames, with some exclaiming that “a plane has fallen” and “it’s on fire.”
Additional footage shows fire and rescue vehicles arriving at the scene shortly after the incident. A section of the glass curtain wall on the upper floors of the building was also seen missing.
Many people were trying to understand how it could have bypassed layered airspace restrictions, saying the behavior “resembles 9/11.
