Just before the U.S. and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire on April 7, Israel carried out an airstrike on the “China-Iran Railway”—the first direct attack by Israel on a core interest of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The “China-Iran Railway” is seen as a vital artery for Iran’s economy. Analysts pointed out that while the attack targeted the railway, it was actually aimed at Iran’s “financial lifeline,” its “food supply route,” and its “weapon transport line.”
