New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has endorsed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for reelection as she faces a primary battle with her second-in-command.
Mamdani announced the endorsement in an article in The Nation onFeb. 5, praising Hochul’s cooperation with him on progressive policies.
Hochul is running for reelection to a second four-year term in 2026 and has been seen as an establishment figure in the party.
Mamdani, who ran as a democratic socialist, acknowledged disagreements with Hochul, though he said the Democratic Party was a “big tent” where their differences could coexist.
“Together, we have fought to protect New Yorkers from ICE,” Mamdani wrote in his article, highlighting how immigration enforcement operations have become a top concern for Democratic Party voters. …
