China’s construction quality issues have long been widely reported, including in major infrastructure and defense-related projects. Recently, the “base” of a state-level key project in China, with an investment of several hundred million yuan (RMB, same below), was reportedly broken by hand. The concrete inside was loose and degraded, filled with broken stones, with only a thin layer of cement mortar on the surface.
