Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping has not left Beijing for three months. In past years around Chinese New Year, he usually traveled across the country to inspect local areas and review military units. Those trips helped strengthen his authority. Now, however, observers say he shows clear signs of deep anxiety about the armed forces. He has even ordered higher military alert levels during the holiday period. Some evidence points to recruitment videos from the Central Intelligence Agency having an impact. This has led to growing speculation about increasing divisions inside the Chinese Communist Party.
