The city’s police chief, Raymond Siu Chak-yee, revealed that the force had so far received two reports regarding claims by the Hong Kong Journalists Association that dozens of reporters, their family members and employers had been harassed over the past few months.
“In Hong Kong, a city with the rule of law, anyone who is threatened or harassed should report the case to police,” he said.
“Police will surely handle the case impartially regardless of one’s background.”
The association said on Friday that “self-proclaimed ‘patriots’ had sent anonymous complaints by email or letter to at least 15 journalists’ family members and their family members’ employers, landlords and related organisations, including charities, schools and private businesses”.
