The highly anticipated grand opening follows nearly 20 test runs conducted over the past four months to ensure the venue is ready to smoothly host a plethora of major events from concerts by bands such as Coldplay to sporting tournaments like rugby’s Hong Kong Sevens.

The Post breaks down what you need to know ahead of the opening ceremony at the park’s main stadium – the largest in the city with 50,000 seats – scheduled to take place at 6.30pm on Saturday.

1. Deadline for ticket redemption

Those who have bought public sale seats must redeem the physical tickets at Kai Tak Arena. Only 3,500 or 43 per cent of the 8,500 public tickets had been redeemed as of Thursday, according to Commissioner for Sports George Tsoi Kin-pan, urging residents to collect them as soon as possible to avoid delays.

The redemption counter will be open until 10pm on Friday and from 9am to 3pm on Saturday.

Tsoi said the ticket collection arrangement was to allow attendees to familiarise themselves with the park.

2. Prohibited items

The public is reminded that plastic, glass, metal containers, cans and bottles are not allowed at the park, neither are umbrellas longer than 35cm.
