The city government earlier this month proposed doubling the rates at public metered parking spaces from HK$2 (25 US cents) per 15 minutes to HK$4, with the policy potentially starting from September 28.
Authorities said the rate had remained the same for 31 years, noting that the inflation rate had reached 70 per cent over that period.
