On the popular social media platform Threads, a video showing two young people skateboarding on the Hill Road flyover has gained 312,000 views. The pair wore helmets and gloves while travelling at high speeds on the flyover.
In the video, the pair are sometimes seen spreading their arms and leaning down to maintain balance. A car following them recorded the entire process with a dashcam. As the video gained popularity, users began commenting and raising concerns about safety.
“The roads in Hong Kong are crowded and narrow, and these roads are usually used by trucks and buses. You are not only harming yourself, but also the lives of other drivers. Whether you are a foreigner or a local, please think carefully before engaging in such behaviour,” one user wrote.
Ringo Lee Yiu-pui, honorary life president of the Hong Kong, China Automobile Association, said that while current laws did not specifically regulate skateboarding, he believed skateboarding should fall under the category of “multi-cycle”.
