Vietnam Slaps China Hard: Rejects Chinese-Made Aircraft, Tensions Mount, War Looms

From April 14 to 15, 2025, Xi Jinping made a state visit to Vietnam, marking the first meeting between the leaders of China and Vietnam since 2019. Less than a week after his visit, on April 20, the Vietnamese budget airline VietJet introduced two C909 regional jets made by China’s COMAC. But just six months later, on October 20, Reuters learned from sources that the airline decided not to renew the lease due to high operational costs.
