Vegetable Prices Soar in Beijing and Shanghai; Chinese Can’t Afford Even Greens and Cucumbers

One blogger shared an even more shocking experience at his local vegetable market, where prices have become unbelievably high. Cucumbers, which used to cost around 2 yuan per half kilo, are now selling for nearly 8 yuan. In some places, two cucumbers are priced at 10 yuan, and in others, eggplants are going for 15 yuan per half kilo—over five times their usual cost. The most surprising increase is with spinach, which has surged to 19 yuan per half kilo.
