The agreement, reached during high-stakes negotiations in Jeddah, signalled a decisive shift in Washington’s stance amid efforts to revive peace talks with Russia.

Ukrainian delegates, led by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, thanked US President Donald Trump, Congress and the American public for enabling progress towards peace.

Outlined in the joint statement as “an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties”, Tuesday’s agreement hinges on Russia’s acceptance, with the US vowing to convey the terms to Moscow soon

“The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace,” according to the joint statement.
