A large unleashed dog has fatally mauled two smaller pets in separate attacks within 20 minutes in Hong Kong, but authorities have yet to determine whether it is microchipped, as the animal remains too “aggressive” to handle.
Police on Monday said the first attack occurred at 3pm near the taxi rank at the Yoho Mall car park in Yuen Long, where a 58‑year‑old man was walking his brown miniature poodle.
His 17‑year‑old, 5kg poodle was suddenly chased and mauled by a 60kg (132lbs) large brown dog of unknown breed, nearly two feet (60cm) tall, according to the force.
The poodle was rushed to a veterinary clinic but later confirmed dead.
About 20 minutes later, the same dog struck again near Lolli Park at Yoho Mix mall, where a 50‑year‑old woman was walking her four-year-old 5kg bichon frise.
Distressing footage online shows the large dog clamping its jaws on the smaller victim’s neck as the owner collapses in grief, while passers-by try in vain to intervene.
