At around 9 a.m. on January 7, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in Shigatse, Tibet. The quake caused significant casualties and widespread destruction, with many buildings collapsing. The earthquake’s shallow depth of only 10 kilometers resulted in intense shaking.
