In space-starved Hong Kong, where expensive flats and hotel rooms can leave younger couples struggling to find privacy, some companies have started to offer a new type of party room, replete with sheets, shower and absence of any CCTVs.

But a social worker warned that guarantees of privacy might not always be honoured, while a lawyer said some of the companies could be operating in a grey area if they did not have a guesthouse licence.
Party rooms, mostly housed in commercial or industrial buildings, are a popular recreational option for Hongkongers to host social gatherings for as many as 100 people. They usually feature karaoke equipment or space for games, such as cards or pool.
But recently, companies have begun to advertise features aimed at couples. One venue in Tsuen Wan visited by the Post was advertised as a “No CCTV” party room with a sofa bed and a separate washroom and shower.
Two people could rent the space for four hours for HK$360 (US$46), and receive a disposable bedsheet, towels and slippers for an extra HK$50 deposit.

The premises operated without reception or staff. Customers needed only obtain a password through the operator’s social media account and check in by themselves.
