Hongkongers can expect a cooler Mother’s Day as temperatures are forecast to drop to as low as 19 degrees Celsius from Saturday’s high of 31 degrees, the Observatory has said.

The forecaster said on Saturday that a cold front over the northern part of southern China was moving southwards gradually.

It is expected to move across coastal areas on Saturday night, with thundery showers in the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong.

It would be mainly cloudy with a few showers on Saturday afternoon, followed by a few squally thunderstorms, it said. Showers will be heavier in some areas later.

There will also be light winds, which will strengthen from the north on Saturday night, with temperatures falling progressively.
