Hong Kong police have arrested a suspected triad member on suspicion of criminal intimidation following a dispute between two motorists over the proper use of a road.
The argument erupted at around 10.40pm on Saturday when a vehicle tried to exit a car park at Kwong Yuen Estate in Sha Tin but was blocked by a white Mercedes-Benz.
A video posted online shows the driver of the Mercedes-Benz leaving his vehicle and using foul language to repeatedly verbally abuse the other driver, who later filed a report to police.
According to the force, the two drivers argued over the proper use of the road and the attitude of the other. Police were initially treating the case as “traffic complaint”, and no arrests were made.
The driver who initially tried to exit the car park called police the next day, claiming he was verbally abused and threatened him with foul language.
In the early hours of Wednesday, police arrested a 43-year-old man in the public housing estate.
The man, who is believed to be a suspected Sun Yee On triad member, was detained on suspicion of criminal intimidation – an offence punishable by up to five years in jail.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the suspect was still being held for questioning.
Officers from the anti-triad squad of Sha Tin district are following up.
