Sudan’s Three Gorges Dam Attacked; China Built Many In Africa, Posing Nuclear-Level Threat

In the early hours of January 13, 2025, a drone attack targeted the Merowe Dam, known as Sudan’s “Three Gorges Project.” The assault caused a fire and severe damage at the dam’s hydroelectric substation. This forced the hydroelectric power station to suspend operations. The dam structure itself did not sustain serious damage. Experts warned that had the dam collapsed, the release of 12.5 billion cubic meters of water would have flooded towns along both banks of the Nile downstream.
