Students, workers and domestic helpers affected by the deadly Hong Kong blaze that claimed 151 lives will each receive a payout of HK$20,000 (US$2,570) as part of government relief efforts.
Donations to the government’s relief fund have reached HK$1.6 billion.
The authorities on Monday also announced grants ranging from HK$50,000 to HK$100,000 for the dozens of people injured in the fire.

Aid continued to pour in from the authorities and private sector after last Wednesday’s deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which claimed at least 151 lives, injured 79, and displaced thousands.
The Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, established by the government, has received HK$1.3 billion in public donations and HK$300 million from the government, bringing the total to HK$1.6 billion.

In addition to the HK$200,000 token of solidarity and HK$50,000 funeral grants for families of the deceased, the HK$10,000 emergency cash subsidy and the HK$50,000 living allowance to each household announced earlier, the government said it would provide an extra subsidy to certain groups affected by the fire.
