Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the longest-serving Democrat in Congress and one of the oldest members, said he plans to retire rather than run for another term.
“I did not want to be one of those members who clearly stayed, outstayed his or her ability to do the job,” Hoyer, 86, told The Washington Post in an interview published Jan. 7.
Hoyer plans to formally announce his retirement during a speech on the House of Representatives floor on Thursday morning, he told the paper.
“I will speak on the House Floor at 10 a.m. tomorrow,” Hoyer wrote in a Jan. 7 post on X. “Tune in.”…
