The State Department approved a possible $4.5 billion sale of next-generation military refueling aircraft and related equipment to Qatar on Aug. 20.
The sale would include four KC-46A Pegasus refueling aircraft, eight turbofan engines, 10 radar warning receivers, 15 laser transmitter assemblies, and other defense equipment.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic regional partner that has been and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East,” the State Department stated.
It said the administration does not expect the sale of military aircraft, support, and equipment to alter the basic military balance in the region….
