The Post wrapped up its annual Spirit of Hong Kong Awards on Tuesday night, recognising the work of a teenager who offers sports classes for underprivileged children, an advocate working with restaurants to create soft food options for people who have difficulties swallowing and an entrepreneur who hires the elderly, among many others.

The trio were among 10 recipients honoured at a ceremony for the 12th edition of the campaign, co-organised by the South China Morning Post and developer Sino Group, at the Conrad Hong Kong hotel in Admiralty.
This year’s awards garnered 184 nominations, a 268 per cent increase over the previous year, with 13 youth nominations, nearly triple last year’s number.
It also introduced two new categories: the Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award, recognising those who bring new products and services to the community; and the Spirit of Nurturing Award, celebrating an educator who devotes time and resources to the development of the next generation.
The panel of judges picked nine winners from the 27 shortlisted individuals and groups representing a range of ages, ethnicities and backgrounds for awards in the categories of community, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation, nurturing, perseverance, sustainability, teamwork and youth.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu praised the winners, noting the city needed such remarkable individuals who exemplified Hong Kong’s “can-do” spirit.
