A woman in South Korea has denied attempted murder charges in her first court appearance after she allegedly sliced off her husband’s genitals and flushed them down the toilet.

The unnamed defendant, 57, is accused of ambushing her husband with her son-in-law at an Incheon cafe on August 1, and attacking him over what they suspected was infidelity.
Prosecutors said the 39-year-old son-in-law acted as an accomplice and used tape to restrain the victim, with the woman then stabbing her husband in the lower body about 50 times before severing his genitals and disposing of them in the toilet.
At the hearing on Wednesday, local media reported the woman admitted a charge of unlawful entry at a shared home, but denied any murder intent. “We acknowledge the housebreaking charge, but there was no intent to kill, so this is not attempted murder,” her defence lawyer said.
The son-in-law’s lawyer argued on the same grounds, adding that his client had tracked down the victim but the act was unrelated to the eventual crime.

The woman’s daughter, 36, who is the stepdaughter of the victim, admitted to charges of violating the Act on the Protection and Use of Location Information. She was involved in hiring a private detective with her mother to track the victim.
