A Singaporean couple has opted not to pursue legal action against three Indonesian teenagers who were arrested for harassing them during their visit to Bandung in West Java.

Bandung City police chief Budi Sartono told reporters on Sunday that the police had halted their investigation into the case after one of the victims accepted a public apology from the teens.

“The victim has confirmed that she will not continue the legal process into the case as she saw the perpetrators had apologised on social media and thought this would serve as a lesson as the perpetrators are children,” Budi said.

The case gained traction on social media after the couple from Singapore – who have been documenting their travels online – uploaded a video to their YouTube channel called “Darien & Joanna” about the incident last Thursday.

The video referred to the woman being “molested in Indonesia by Indonesian men” on December 31.

It shows the couple recording themselves walking along a street in Bandung when three individuals appear to start trailing them. The couple later say in the video that an individual among the trio had inappropriately touched the woman.
