The Republican candidate triumphed in the race to fill a U.S. House of Representatives seat left open by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.).

Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb won over Democrat Elizabeth Lee, a nurse. The Associated Press called the race on Nov. 6.

Lamb earned 156,179 votes to Lee’s 147,058, according to unofficial results from Arizona’s secretary of state.

Lamb and Lee did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Lamb campaigned on helping protect Arizonans’ freedoms and the U.S. southern border.

Lee has said her legislative priority was helping make health care more affordable.

The seat Lamb will take over in January 2027 represents Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. It became up for grabs when Biggs opted to enter the gubernatorial election rather than try for another term.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, succeeded over Biggs. She had 1.3 million votes to Biggs’ 1.0 million, according to unofficial results.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
