The People’s Liberation Army began a second day of drills around Taiwan on Tuesday.
The PLA Eastern Theatre Command said troops would conduct exercises simulating attacks on maritime targets and carry out anti-air and anti-submarine operations to the north and south of the island.
The command on Monday said the drills – dubbed Justice Mission 2025 – were a warning to the “independence forces” and against external interference.

They come amid heightened tensions across the Taiwan Strait after Washington approved a record US$11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan.
On the first day of the live-fire drills blockading the island, the PLA mobilised stealth fighters, drones, destroyers and missile launchers.

Taiwan’s defence ministry said it had detected some 130 PLA aircraft, 14 ships and eight “official” vessels – which usually refers to coastguard ships – near the island in the 24 hours to 6am on Tuesday.
