Since the petition sparked by the death of K-drama star Kim Sae-ron was posted on the National Assembly’s petition page on February 24, it has received more than 57,000 signatures as of Tuesday evening.

Under parliamentary rules, a committee has to review every petition with 50,000 or more signatures before deciding within 90 days whether to bring it for discussion in the Assembly on potential legislative changes.

After making her debut as a child actress in K-drama A Brand New Life in 2009, Kim achieved international fame for her role in the Korean action thriller The Man from Nowhere in 2010.

The 24-year-old was found dead at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on February 16.

The person behind the petition, identified only as Jeong, claimed many YouTubers had posted videos containing groundless allegations about Kim on their channels that were at a “near-stalking level”, according to a report by The Korea Herald.
