Paraglider dies after crashing into Hong Kong hillside during flight

A paraglider has died after crashing into a hillside in southern Hong Kong.

Police said they received a report at about 2.20pm on Tuesday that a man had been involved in an accident while paragliding at Dragon’s Back in Shek O.

The 68‑year‑old was reported to have embarked on a solo paragliding flight but crashed near Shek O Peak, about 500 metres from his take‑off point.

He was found unconscious at the crash site. Rescue personnel rushed to the scene, and a Government Flying Service helicopter airlifted him to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan.

He was pronounced dead at 3.47pm in hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
