Shenzhen, once called a “miracle city,” is now struggling under the weight of an economic downturn. Everywhere you go, you see homeless people. Many of them came from other places with dreams of finding a good job in Shenzhen. But things didn’t go as planned. They ran out of money and couldn’t find work. With no way to pay for even a cheap hotel, they now sleep on the streets. These scenes have become a painful reminder that the so-called “prosperous city” has deep problems hiding under its surface.
