Mother arrested after newborn baby found dead in Hong Kong flat

Hong Kong police have arrested a woman on suspicion of neglecting her two-day-old son, who was found dead in a flat in Sham Tseng.

The force said the boy’s grandmother made a report at 4.35pm on Monday that the newborn had been found unconscious and was not breathing in a flat at the Lido Garden development on Castle Peak Road in the New Territories. She told police the boy’s faced had turned blue.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

Police classified the case as child neglect and later arrested the 30-year-old mother.

The force said an autopsy would be conducted later to confirm the cause of death.
