More than 5,000 travellers use revamped Huanggang crossing in first 2 hours

The revamped Huanggang Port has officially opened after six years of redevelopment, becoming the first border checkpoint between Hong Kong and mainland China to use a “joint clearance” system for immigration.

The facility, which the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office says is the largest single-building land port in the world, opened at 6.30am on Monday.

It replaces the old Huanggang Port in Shenzhen, which served Hong Kong residents arriving by shuttle bus from the San Tin public transport interchange or by private vehicle via the Lok Ma Chau control point.

With immigration procedures for both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides integrated within the building, authorities have said clearance time will be cut from 30 minutes to five minutes for travellers on foot, and from 10 minutes to two minutes for vehicle drivers.
