Park rangers found the missing boy safe and sound, Tinashe Farawo, spokesman for the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, confirmed on Friday.

Farawo said the boy had roamed over around 50km through the Matusadona Park in the north of the country, where numerous wild animals live, including lions, elephants and rhinos.

The child, who lives in a small village on the edge of the nearly 1,500-square-kilometre national park, had lost his way and ventured deeper into the park. According to the park authority, the boy mainly survived on wild fruit and dug for water.

Villagers reportedly searched unsuccessfully for the missing child with drums for days. Heavy rains made the search more difficult at times, the spokesman said.
