WASHINGTON—Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said that he doesn’t want to repeal a Colorado law that prohibits law enforcement from detaining an individual based solely on a request by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
A detainer from ICE requests jails and law enforcement hold an individual for an extra 48 hours, giving ICE time to take them into custody.
Johnston spoke amid questions by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who asked if he still blamed Colorado state law for his city’s lack of coordination with ICE. Boebert asked Johnston if he would join with her in calling for that law to be repealed….
