Police said a security guard reported at 10.36am on Tuesday that he was allegedly attacked by an emotionally agitated man who had been splashing paint inside the Cheung Kong Center.
Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the 49-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage and common assault.
A source said the suspect had travelled to the city from mainland China and demanded to meet Li Ka-shing upon entering the lobby.
The building is the headquarters for CK Asset Holdings Ltd. Li served as the company’s chairman for several decades before stepping down from the role in 2018.

“The security guard rejected his request, prompting the suspect to splash red paint in the lift lobby on the upper ground floor,” the insider said.
