Malaysians are demanding authorities to reveal the identity of a VIP whose convoy caused an accident on a highway over the weekend, as concerns over road safety surge following the death of a 21-year-old woman who was crushed in her car by a container that fell from a speeding lorry.

On Saturday, an unmarked black sedan with police-style blinker lights rammed into the rear of a civilian car as it weaved through traffic at speed during a downpour to catch up with a VIP convoy on the North-South Highway in Negeri Sembilan state.
Dashcam footage from the victim’s car, which was shared widely on Malaysian social media, shows the vehicle squeezing past two other cars before slamming into the victim’s car. The occupants in the car, including a child, could be heard crying and screaming.
There were no reported fatalities but it is unclear if there were any injuries.
Many online users have demanded that VIP escorts be outlawed for all except for top leaders like the king, prime minister and heads of state.
“Truly unnecessary and dangerous as we’ve seen time & time again,” read one comment on X.

The VIP, whose identity remains unknown, was also criticised for forcing traffic to part and slow down, with many arguing that elites would have armies of personal assistants who could help manage their time without causing trouble for the public.
